Camping Re-opens at Kīholo State Park Reserve

Aloha mai kākou,

After many months of closure, we are excited to announce the reopening of camping at Kīholo! Reservations are now open for Friday, August 5th and beyond and can be made at the State Parks Camping Reservation website.

Hui Aloha Kīholo has worked closely with the Division of State Parks to ensure the safety of our community through the removal of dangerous hanging limbs in the kiawe canopy. Mahalo to the Division of State Parks for seeking funding and coordinating the contract to trim the kiawe canopy.

In addition the the tree-trimming project, we made some improvements to the campgrounds that we hope you will enjoy!

Freshly Painted Picnic Tables

Hui Aloha Kīholo's staff and board (and littlest Hoa ʻĀina, Haweo) worked together to fill in pukas and graffiti on the tables, sand them, and put a fresh coat of paint. By maintaining these tables and protecting them from the elements, we hope that our community can enjoy them for many more years to come!

New and Improved Fire Pits

Hui Aloha Kīholo's Hoa ʻĀina staff member Leighton Hind took the lead in repairing our campsite fire pits with support from our staff and donations of time and materials from our community. We hope the aloha put into these grills make your time at Kīholo that much more ʻono!

Our staff is looking forward to the return of campers to Kīholo! These improvements to the campgrounds could not have been possible without the generous support of our community members. As a non-profit organization we rely on donations from our community to fund our stewardship of the Kīholo State Park Reserve, including care of the campgrounds and management of the camping program. Reminders for camping at Kīholo State Park Reserve

After some time away from Kīholo, we want to remind you of a few things before you return.

  • The kiawe canopy above the campgrounds has never been maintained so there was a lot of work to do, resulting in less overall shade. Kiawe are fast-growing trees and we know the coverage will return in no time, but until then you may want to bring additional shade.

  • Please dispose of your ʻōpala properly. There is a large orange dumpster near campsite 8 where you may dispose of your rubbish and there are recycling bins at the Campgrounds parking lot, as well as at the Day Use/Kou Turnaround area.

  • No open fires except in fire pits at campsites.

  • Dogs and other pets are prohibited in State Parks.

  • Camping is allowed only in marked campsites.

  • Campsites are located along an unimproved gravel access road in a kiawe grove fronting an ʻiliʻili (pebble) beach. This is a remote area with no facilities and NO WATER. Portable toilets are provided. Call 911 in the event of an emergency.

  • Camping is allowed on weekends only (Friday through Sunday nights), and sites may be reserved up to 30 days in advance of check-in.

  • When entrance gates are locked for the night, vehicles will not be able to enter or leave the park. Overnight parking permits for campers must be displayed during park closed hours or vehicles may be cited and/or towed at owner's expense. Maximum three parking permits per permittee. Call 911 in the event of an emergency.

  • Smoking, including E-cigarettes, and the use of tobacco products in State Parks, is prohibited.

  • No cutting of trees/shrubs for firewood - bring your own or gather fallen wood from ground only.

  • No telephone, no water - bring plenty of drinking water.

We mahalo you all for your patience over the past 10 months. We know you are eager to return and we can’t wait to see you back at Kīholo!

E mālama pono,

Hui Aloha Kīholo
