Join Hui Aloha Kīholo's Cultural Director, Ku'ulei Keakealani, as she shares traditional knowledge of the signs of rain in Kona that were recorded in a Hawaiian Language newspaper article. Learn the motions and words to a hula noho, a seated dance, depicting these signs of rain that the people of Kona observe in the clouds, moon and sky.

Mālama ʻĀina - Waiaʻelepī
On September 25, 2020, we spent time at the lua wai kai (brackish water anchialine pools) named Waiaʻelepī. Lehua Kamaka, one of our Hoa ʻĀina, has spent years engaged in the restoration of this beloved area, and introduced us to some of the current and past residents of Waiaʻelepī, starting with hints from the pond's name, Wai-A-ʻElepī, or Waters of the ʻElepī crab.

On August 28th, 2020, Hui Aloha Kīholo’s cultural director, Kuʻulei Keakealani, was joined by the crew from Nā Peʻa (Ruth, Kalani and Nahaku) to talk story about the winds that blow at Kīholo and the broader North Kona region. Our guests share more about the Nā Peʻa youth sailing program, including a hula that teaches us the parts of the waʻa (canoe).

Gates Reopen
Gates at Kīholo State Park Reserve are reopened to cars from 7am to 6:45pm, for daily use. Camping is still not allowed. The safe reopening of Kīholo State Park Reserve is only possible because of you, our community. In less than a month, you all provided the financial resources needed to reach the “For the Love of Luas” fundraising goal...
