Gates Reopen

Aloha e Hui Aloha Kīholo ʻohana,

As of today, October 1, 2020, gates are now open to cars from 7 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. daily at Kīholo State Park Reserve. Hawaii County beach parks had been closed since September 4 to slow the spread of COVID-19. Camping or any overnight activity is still not allowed.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks is now allowing access by car to Kīholo with the following safety restrictions due to COVID-19:

  • Social Distancing
All groups are limited to a single residential or family unit sharing the same address, and no family group shall exceed 10 persons. All persons not part of a single residential or family unit shall maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from any other beach user.

  • Park Hours
Current hours are 7 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. All park areas are open for day-use only. All overnight uses, including camping, are prohibited. Please heed the posted park hours, which may be more restrictive than normal park hours.

Active Monitoring + Presence

Our Hoa ʻĀina team continues to be on the ground at Kīholo seven days a week. In collaboration with our partners, these Hoa ʻĀina, or “friends of the land” monitor and protect natural and cultural resources and educate visitors to the reserve. Our primary Hoa ʻĀina are Andrew Hanano, Leighton Hind, and Sandy Kamaka. Also, the State of Hawai`i Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement officers are regularly monitoring Kīholo and issuing citations for those not following State law. There are no emergency or lifeguard services at Kīholo. In case of emergency, call 911.
