We are happy to announce the reopening of the Kīholo State Park Reserve. Many trees and large branches have fallen due to the high winds, so please use extreme caution and be mindful of any hanging tree branches.
Due to continuing unstable weather conditions, Kīholo State Park Reserve will remain closed today, Monday, December 6, until further notice. Once weather conditions stabilize, our staff will assess the park to ensure a safe reopening.
Throughout Hawaiʻi, the voices of our kūpuna remain as constant reminders, giving us guidance and direction. In this panel, we fold in the voices of our ʻōpio, the youth, as they too can remind, guide and direct us as our future leaders in aloha ʻāina.
On Friday, January 29, starting at 9:30 a.m., join us as we talk story with our ʻohana from Miloliʻi, Kaʻūpūlehu, and Kīholo about the ways our communities are striving to care for our local fisheries.

Learn of the winds of Kekaha, North Kona, and meet Nā Peʻa, the youth who utilize those winds with their ʻōpelu sailing canoes.

Kīholo is home to the waʻa program Nā Peʻa, which brings together youth and 4man opelu sailing canoes to inspire leadership, teamwork, and the transmission of traditional cultural practices. The program is now taking applications!
